Debt avalanche
A payoff plan where you pay minimums on every debt and put all extra money toward the highest interest rate first.
With the debt avalanche, you list debts from highest APR to lowest. Extra money goes to the most expensive debt, and when it is gone, that payment moves to the next highest rate.
This order costs the least in total interest. The first payoff can take longer if the highest-rate debt has a large balance, so some people find it harder to stick with than the debt snowball.
Example
Debts of $500 at 20%, $2,000 at 25% and $6,000 at 7% are paid in this order: $2,000 (25%), then $500 (20%), then $6,000 (7%).
