Editorial policy
How WalletPrep lessons, answers and calculators are written, checked and kept up to date.
Who we write for
Adults who are new to managing money, often with little savings and some debt. Lessons answer the question people actually search in the first two sentences, then go deeper. We write at about a 7th to 8th grade reading level and never use shame.
Accuracy
Every number in a worked example, table or answer page is calculated by code from the same functions the calculators use. The build checks each worked example's arithmetic and refuses to publish a page where it doesn't add up. Interest, payoff and growth figures are never estimated by hand.
Figures that change every year, such as contribution limits, tax brackets and insurance limits, are stored once with their year and official source and appear on every page from that single record. They are listed on the 2026 money numbers page. We check them each January and whenever an agency publishes new figures.
Sources
We cite primary sources: the IRS, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Federal Trade Commission, FDIC, NCUA, SEC and Investor.gov, FINRA, the Federal Reserve, the Treasury, the Social Security Administration and other government agencies. We don't cite blogs or competitors. Each lesson lists its sources at the bottom.
What we won't do
We don't promise returns, call anything guaranteed, or present a market return as a fact. Investing examples state their assumed return and note that real returns vary and can be negative. Lessons name generic account types, not specific banks, apps or brokerages, and no one can pay to change a lesson. See how we make money.
How lessons are made
Lessons are drafted with the help of AI tools and then checked against a written style and accuracy specification by automated checks: math, sources, banned phrases, reading length and yearly figures. Pages show the name of a reviewer when one has reviewed them. Each page shows the date it was last updated.
Updates and corrections
We update lessons when rules change and note the date at the top of each page. If we get something wrong we fix it and log it on the corrections page. Spot an error? Email hello@walletprep.com.
Not personal advice
General education, not personalized financial, tax or legal advice. Figures are examples. Check current rates and limits before you act.
