Credit report

A record of your credit accounts, payments, balances and some public records, kept by each of the three credit bureaus.

Your credit report lists your cards and loans, their limits and balances, whether you paid on time and who has checked your credit. Most negative items, like late payments and collections, can stay for up to 7 years. A Chapter 7 bankruptcy can stay for 10.

You can get your reports free weekly from each of the three bureaus at AnnualCreditReport.com. If you find an error, you have the right to dispute it with the bureau and the company that reported it.
