Credit freeze
A free block on your credit report that stops most new lenders from seeing it, which makes it hard for a thief to open accounts in your name.
A credit freeze is free by federal law. You place it with each of the three credit bureaus separately. It does not affect your score or your current accounts.
When you need to apply for credit, you can lift the freeze for a set time or for one lender, then put it back. A lift requested online or by phone must take effect within 1 hour. Keep each bureau login or PIN somewhere safe.
