Brokerage account
An investment account where you can buy and sell stocks, bonds, ETFs and mutual funds. It has no special tax benefits.
A regular brokerage account has no contribution limit and no age rules for withdrawals. You can take money out anytime, but you may owe tax on dividends, interest and capital gains.
Investments in it are not FDIC insured and can lose value. SIPC protection covers some losses if the brokerage firm itself fails, not losses from market drops. Many people use tax-advantaged accounts like a 401(k) or IRA first.
