Base period
The stretch of past work your state looks at to decide whether you qualify for unemployment and how much you get.
In most states the base period is the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters before you file. Your wages in those quarters set your weekly benefit.
If you don't have enough wages in the regular base period, some states let you use a more recent one, called an alternate base period. Your state's unemployment site explains its rules.
